In September 2026, tesamorelin (EGRIFTA SV, EGRIFTA WR) had approval from FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for adults with HIV-related lipodystrophy.

Its approved purpose is to reduce excess fat in the belly.

HIV is short for human immunodeficiency virus.

Lipodystrophy is a change in where the body holds fat.

### So, is this a weight-loss shot?

Weight loss is not an approved use on the label, as of September 2026.
